I Just Can’t See It…
“I just can’t see it…” It’s the trigger statement that nearly every client expresses as we begin a project, whether commercial or residential. It’s not a bad phrase, it’s not a flaw, but it’s exactly the reason Render Dwell exists! You see, I CAN see it. Almost always. I’ve been designing, removing walls, swapping materials, and adding fixtures in my head since I saw the space. It’s the reason I will stare at a blank wall or corner for minutes, even hours, building the perfect shelving unit in my head. It’s also the reason I can turn as little as a photo or hand sketch into a reimagined space, sparking anything from a kitchen renovation to a whole home makeover.
I want to share a home makeover before and after from a client in Cicero, IN. This couple moved their family of 4 from a spacious, modern lake house to a rustic, stone-clad cottage in the woods. The homes couldn’t be more opposite, and the family was ready for a big shift towards minimalism. With a couple of inspiration photos, I was up and running with two beautiful design options, showcasing the character of the existing wood beams and stone walls. One request was to bring cohesion to the various wood finishes that had been mismatched through the years. Painting the existing ceiling maintained the depth of the wood grain and joints, while brightening and lifting the space. Options of worn, red brick and stone floors were presented, with a natural stone backsplash, and a hint of modern ceramic tile at the window (did you know there was a window there?!). The small space was brightened once again by eye-catching wall sconces. Counters were kept clear of clutter and accessories to portray the beauty of this minimalist kitchen.
No doubt this home was loved by It’s previous owners. For many, many years. The existing space wasn’t filled with flaws, but rather opportunities to bring joy and light into the home once again. We hope this space inspires you and gives you your own home remodel ideas!
We’d love to help you revitalize and refresh your space, and the process couldn’t be easier. You can get started, view home design before and afters, and learn more here!
