The Power of Paint

Something amazing happens when a room gets fresh paint. Of course, there’s the obvious new, clean smell and the absence of finger prints and smudges. But if you change the color of a room, or paint different walls, that’s where you’ll see a real transformation.

Depending on its location and value (brightness/darkness), paint can shrink or expand a space, heighten or shorten walls, and even lower or raise ceilings. Not to mention, once you take it past value and add in your own hues (colors), the various ways to bring life and change to your space are endless!

Here are 4 ways paint can achieve your design goals:

  1. To Balance Natural Light

Darken window walls. This will bring balance to a room only having windows on one side of the space.

  2. To Create Cozy + Intimate Spaces

Darken all walls or ceilings. This will bring everything inward, achieving a more cozy feel. Even simply the addition of a dark ceiling will make a space much more intimate.

  3. To Add Highlights + Accents

Choose 1 or 2 walls to Darken or Lighten in contrast to the rest of the room. If your accent is darker it will seem to recede and shrink back, and if it’s lighter it will seem larger and come to the forefront of the space. This is a great way to highlight artwork or feature walls.

  4. To Heighten Walls

Lightening the ceiling in contrast to the rest of the room will seem to raise your ceiling. Since most ceilings are already white, you can Darken the bottom 3/4 of your walls, and paint the top 1/4 the same white as the ceiling for added visual height.

Changing paint colors is a simple way you can transform and refresh the space you love. It’s not a whole home makeover or new build, however we know sometimes all you need is a cosmetic project.
